Drawing on the rich and motivating opportunities for learning that festivals provide.
Covering a diversity of traditions and associated symbols from around the world.
Packed with unique and challenging activities that develop knowledge and skills across the curriculum.
Fitting comfortably into the lesson plan or providing readymade fillers.
Here is a series that taps into the rich opportunities that festivals provide for learning across the curriculum.
It presents a diversity of traditions, ranging from Christmas (Book 1) to Australia Day, Chinese New Year and other world festivals (Book 2).
When these intrinsically interesting subjects are combined with unique and challenging activities, students are highly motivated to explore some central symbols relating to each festival.
As part of the learning process, they also develop their skills in fundamental areas of the curriculum.
Individually or in clusters, these photocopiable activities can fit readily into a lesson plan, particularly in relation to language, social studies and mathematics (students complete a co-ordinate drawing of each symbol).
They are also an excellent resource for relief teaching and as fillers at the end of term.
