- The play starts with two rival story-tellers relating the drama of the ill-starred lovers, Pyramus and Thisbe.
- A quarrel ensues and the script is obviously going sadly awry.
- The distraught Producer is at his wits end when suddenly he learns that young Orpheus Hawkins is in the audience.
- In a moment of inspiration he decides to improvise the story of Orpheus and Eurydice and despite the protests of Mrs Hawkins and the interference of Pyramus and Thisbe, he most successfully and beautifully does just this.
